I might finish a few soon , but am mostly just roughing out bowls at the moment , I have obtained a lot of wood recently , and this time of the year is ideal for preparing fresh wood and putting it aside to season , I am also working on a lot of xmas stuff as well and just generally very busy , and as the weather is still good I want days of as well !!

Ok guys im very new to this, i only started turning a couple of months ago and was wondering what you guys use to seal new wood and what is the best way to store it. Im thinking mostly of bowl blanks as we have a sawmill at work so will probally be green blanks.

Thanks

Lovelly!!! me and the missus turned our first bowls this week on our woodturning course. Would like to invest in a proper lathe, you get spoilt at the club with axminster and jet. Got a set of 6 sorby chisels to sell (67HS), unused, £100

caleb, welcome to turning first mate. in answer to your question you can use what you like. i use watered down pva or wax but you can use emulsion paint and use up old pots you have from decorating.

put them in a cool dark place with minimal wind to keep them from drying out too fast.

njmusk, what is you budget??? ebay usually has some good options.

Flexi, have tried bidding for some axminsters last week, but you have to be realistic allowing for courier costs. May end up buying new. Variable speed would be nice, we will see, what ever i do will get ear bashing from her.
