We hire in a kubota u25 from time to time, fantastic bit of kit, punches well above it's weight, it's a zero turn machine to, I cannot comment on other manufactures as have only ever used kubotas,

Time for the antiques road show! My 1988 komatsu is only 1.5 t but does everything I need, built a barn, laid patio moves wood etc- wouldn't be with out one now, the other thing is stability get the widest tracks possible, and a blade if your lifting with it it doesn't take much of a slope to need new pants!

 

There was a you tube vid of a French guy on here about 2 years ago who had a forwarding trailer attached to his blade and a grab with rotator, which I will eventually copy

Cracking little digger!

I used a 3 ton Cat a lot last year, I really liked it. The new model is a zero turn and some say not as good without the extra weight at the back. What's your thoughts?

Stephen- I, going to put a picture up of my old takeuchi Tb016 (which I sold yesterday to a fellow arbtalk member:crying: ) to show what sort of size timber it can lift and also some pics of it in the woods. I think you will be impressed for the size of machine- let me just fire up the laptop.

Here they are, this was a job I did for a local tree surgeon, getting all the timber out to the edge of the woods whilst trying to keep mess to a minimum.

Pic 3 shows the extraction route which was about 100meters in total and that big sycamore stem was about 2ft diameter freshly felled- she was on the limit with that one!

my new digger is basically a beefed up version of the one in the pics with longer reach and more lift. For me the versatility and legalness of moving it with the 4x4 outweighs the pros of a 3 ton.

Why did you sell it?

the last pic was an arrangement using whatever bits of rope I had in the truck, but I like the idea of a mini timber trailer on ATV tyres towing behind the digger. Incidedntly I was doing a fencing job on the moors last year, the landrover was pulling an ifor flatbed full of fencing stakes and got bogged down, so I hitched the digger up to the trailer and it pulled it out and the rest of the way to the job- I was very impresses for a small machine!

Why did you sell it?

 

Got so much work for I decided to get a new slightly bigger one and sell mine whilst it was still worth decent money.
