I did this with a piece metal cable duct on a hire machine. Pushed the blade back and on the next turn the blade hit the anvil and broke the rear bearing. Think the repair price was similar to what I had on the job. Made me really happy. Not!

its not that uncommon , especially on grounds maintenance tasks

 

Ive seen much worse, after the event, seen where blades snap due to metal 2 metal contact & bits exit the machine by punching holes through and out of the flywheel housing & through the shute metal and also heard of them throwing backward out between the rollers

 

was everyone okay ??

Working on railways we've had several track clips go through various chippers with various amounts of damage - believe me you really got off lightly

I just heard a rattle along the shoot, a big rattle!!

It still chipped small brash up to 5" but struggled with bigger.

It never stalled, maybe 150hp behind it helps!

Haven't rummaged through the chip yet to see what we find.

You were very lucky Steve, usually, the blade shatters and takes out the shear bars and bearings before exiting the side of the machine!
