I'm not doubting that they are nice saws to use- and more poke than the 357but I think some of the parts/casing are rather poorly designed- no doubt a weight saving exercise. My mates always seems to struggle starting when warm too.

Yeah, but I have no problem, apart from hot days, where it seems to flood, but I have a remedy for that, as for poor design, once again, no problems there, which is amazing as I try to wreck them whilst under warranty

Hi I've always used shihl but want to try out a husky. Any recommendations I want something with plenty of power but not too big 15" bar max.

 

550 or 560 all day long. Get the heated handle for an extra £30 or so.

Are ordinary chainsaw trousers adequate in the eyes of H&S etc?

550xp or the 560xp , I am a stihl man , but very very impressed with both those saws.

I've a 357 & 346 both are great and when I need to will not hesitate to replace them with a 550 though will probably get a bigger 70/90cc to replace the 357. Always, always get the heated handle. forget the white finger stuff that's a secondary benefit. It's purely for when your hands are cold and wet esp if you're wearing gloves. It'll be the best £30 you've ever spent!!! From what you've said the 550 is the box ticker here!

8t would be 24.4m/s

 

And you can get 24m/s trousers

I would think the 550xp would suit your requirements, or if you want even more, but maybe overkill on a 15 inch bar, the 560xp.

 

Yes, surely!

 

However, on the 560xp I would change to 3/8" if it didn't come with it, and even try 3/8x8 with a 15" bar (you need a standard (large) 7-spline drum for those rims though).

 

3/8"x7 and .325x8 will fit the small 7-spline drums those saws usually come with in Europe.

There is no legislation that says you must match the chain speed of the saw to the ppe....if that were the case we would all be wearing class 1 or 2 gloves!

 

Dont bother with class 2 trousers unless your employer requires them. Compared to class 1:

The fit is not as nice, heavier, hotter when working and feels like you have a 15 tog duvet wrapped around your legs. (great if you want to enter a shin kicking contest though lol)
