for me i would guess as i dont count them. should do really but an average would be a full chain from first sharpen to the witness mark. so a full chain to the wear limit on one file.

the wear of a file depends on the wear on the chain. if its blunt as a door then it will take more off the file.

I would agree Jon if it was a once in blue moon job but it's more like once a week and last one I did it took 50 strokes of the file per tooth to get it back. Took an hour and only charged £7 Aparently cutting trees out of a river bed :001_rolleyes:

HI WOOD/BARRIE yes your right i would tell them on there bike mate i do no what mine thanks jon

get yourself a bench grinder for doing chains so much quicker. mine cost me £40 but the oregon is one of the goods ones. so is £100 plus or get one of the 12vlt ones they do a good job of sharpening chains

I had a 12v one but to be honest it was not much quicker than a file and did not leave such a good edge. I will look into the bench grinders

50 strokes!

I would of thrown it away tbh!

A chain 13"-25" chain takes about 10 minutes to sharpen on the deck or your knee, if its a mate then no charge, if its every week, then have a laugh about it and still sharpen it for nothing.

Is £7.50 going to change your life?if you cant afford a file every week, then I'd get some business advice:)

If he's not appreciative then just don't do it.
