Would it be possible to cut down old poles into usable timbers for a large shed. Is there a cheap mill out there that would do this. I've got an old 028 and a 440. They seem pretty clear of any metal and I can get them pretty cheap

if you mean power poles, or telegraph poles, most people I know who have built barns or sheds use them at there native sizes. but that will depend of course on the size your building.

as for milling, never tried them, but the few I have cut even with a new chain as a normal log, they are quite hard. not sure of what timber species these creosoted poles are but they will be hard going milling. on that note, if they are treated the dust produced may be highly toxic.

if there end of life poles then ya best off useing them as they are,they will probably not produce any good wood,

a pole is not good, plus how many nails would you hit? and by looking at the they will just fall apart when milled i reckon.

I know a man that rips them down on a big circular saw for fence posts but as others have said, if its a pole barn, use full poles.

Farmers often use them for barns. Seems to work well for them. As others have said, they use them whole not milled.

I have cut hundreds down with a rack saw, beware of broken climbing spike tips !!!!!!!!!! they are very hard
