365 Replacement

Sorry to take this slightly off topic, but would you guys say that the 560 is superior to the 365? The reason I ask is that following my other thread on my MS290 problems, I've been eyeing up a new saw just in case this one finds it's way into a skip soon.

I've found a 365 for £518 inc VAT, whereas the 560 is £600. The 365 has a larger engine, but about the same power output.

My use is sporadic to say the least, but when I need a saw, it needs to be pretty powerful to cut up woodturning blanks. I'm struggling to justify the price of the 365 not to mention the 560 :confused1:

Cheers

Aled

Edit : I also see that the 365 is available with longer bars, is this due to the larger engine capacity? A bit of an odd one given the same power output, something to do with torque possibly?

It's a 70cc saw with more torque than a 60cc saw, also it has larger mounts for larger bars, but the 560 revs higher and runs a faster chain speed

For cutting wood turning bits or firewood on occasional use, I'd stick with a 365. They just plod on and are very reliable. I ran 18 inch bars on mine but I did have a 24 inch for the odd time I needed it. They run them ok but I wouldn't want it on it permanently.

Thanks for the advice guys! It looks like a 365 may well be on the cards then.

Now that I may be in the 70cc saw bracket, what about the occasional milling job with say an Alaskan mill? I can't see it being much more than a couple of trees a year at say 18"dia, would the 365 be up to that or am I just dreaming?

Im assuming you mean the 365 x-torq model?

Basically a detuned 372, runs the 372 engine and a minor difference in the transfer covers which can easily be removed to turn it into a 372 and that's the only difference.

The earlier 365 special is a good tool to tho.

I wouldn't be afraid to mill something if it was 18" with either 365. Remember you will prob need a 24" bar fitted tho to mill 18" tho

Yes it's the 365x-torq I was looking at.

The 372 is out of my price range unfortunately (not to mention the 395xp!) so it's good to know that it can be modded to perform like a 372 - I might wait until it's out of it's warranty period before starting on it with a grinder though ;-)

with the x-torqs...

Its a piece of cake to do, just a case of removing a small fin on the transfer covers with a dremel. How Husqvarna can charge an extra £130 or so for an identical machine is beyond me but the 372 has "the following" and nearly everyone wants a 372 so people believe its a superior machine over the 365 when its not.

Ok, this is a subject I was thinking of starting a thread on!

So, I think it could be done on here without too much derail, as it's about getting a good running 60, or (70cc) saw for the money,,,,, do you have pics or further info as to what needs cutting out of the 365?
