Mulching blades are fantastic but wear alot faster. SAFTEY NOTICE- Recently my blade ripped the whole head off myFS 450. I was using a blount 4mm rather then the normal 3mm. The dealer said it was due to using the slightly more durable 4mm. I hit some clutter under heavy ivy and the blade and head shot off about 20ft. It was so lucky nobody got hurt as it was a busy site. I personally will now stick to stihl 3mm

Sounds like bollocks to me, the dealer just wants to use the easy way out- oh, that's not the Stihl approved method. Much like the idiot dealer who swore till he was blue in the face that there was no possible way you could use the wider mulching blade on an FS-400. I bought it elsewhere, and never went back.

There's no way using a thicker blade would have caused that. The only possible explanation is that your gear head was not tightened sufficiently onto the shaft. If that was the case then a 3mm thick blade would have done the same.

The worst case scenario for hitting something with a blade is either the blade shatters, or your drivetrain (usually gear head) is stripped/damaged/twisted. Top tip for future- don't tighten the nut up quite so much. It's better to stop and retighten when you hit something solid than to do damage to your machine.

I have been having great results with one of these

Airecut | The brushcutter blade so aggresively effective it should be illegal!

Cuts through brush etc and copes with gorse etc

Be prepared though it does blast debris everywhere!

I can't say I think that 'so aggresively (which is spelt wrong, not great for an advert) effective it should be illegal' is the sort of thing you want to boast about. 'my product should be illegal' is essentially what it's claiming.

I would agree that grammar and advertising literature are certainly not this fellas strengths!!!

On the plus side though his engineering design and manufacturing skills produce a head which is one of the better ones that I have used.

Clean up is not too bad but it does blast lots of little bits everywhere while your using it along with leaving longer lengths that can be raked.

I cut some rushes and bramble etc the other day without a single choked head, you do need though to have a full set of waterproofs on and decent face and eye protection.

I have been well impressed with it.

Pretty sure ours came via eBay in the uk for around £20.
