Hello all,

Came back from holiday today to find loads of beetles all over the living room (after some research identified them as ash bark beetles).

My question is: are any of the surviving beetles likely to breed or start eating anything in the house?

Cheers,

Gordon

Can you post some pics of said beetle, my ash logs are full of those holes, so I have left them outside in favour of some cherry (once the fires lit it is less of a worry), but if your house is mostly wood perhaps too many un-invited guests ....

I had the same problem by leaving a log basket full in the house a few years ago, came in one day and the window sill was crawling with small beetles, I never noticed and holes in any furniture in the house though, so now log basket is in shed till needed.

First time I've had them in my firewood to be honest, but I think I'll keep the basket outside from now on until needed. Didn't even think they were from the wood at first, but then noticed the little pin holes in the logs.

Any chance of them breeding? Or do they need the logs to breed?

we had an ash tree that blew down back in February ,ringed it up and tipped in shed , now I find that it is probably got ash bark beetle because there is lots of dust and small holes , haven't seen the little blighters maybe something else , will the boring be confined to just the bark and could it spread to logs of other species ( beech , sycamore etc ) ? don't want to offend log buyers !:confused1:

It's relatively easy to kill the blighters by wrapping the beetle infested wood in bisqueen plastic sheeting during summer, which bakes the bugs to death quite effectively.
