Suggestions for reliable estate car

Mrs Tree has finally got fed up with the subaru faffing about and wants a newer estate car for the gardening side of things.

 

In ths past she has had a citroen BX, Vauxhall Carlton and lately the subaru legacy.

 

Any suggestions for a solid, reliable estate car (she will NOT use my defender so that's out - as are all pick-ups). I was thinking along the lines of peugeot 406, volvo V70, audi ,saab 95, merc or another scooby??.

 

If anyone knows of any pros or cons I'd be grateful.

 

Budget around 2-3k

Volvo are not reliable! Esp in 2.0D form.

 

Budget = Toyota Avensis = best reliability out there; period.

The citreon c5, is very spacious and cheap.

Not a sabb 95 thats for sure. My dad has one and it's been nothing but problems. Biggest problem is a leak that means the drivers side back seat foot well is nearly always wet.

 

Look at a Sokda Octavia.

I just sold my V70 and got a Turbo Subaru estate goes like stink with the pro drive pack.

Ford mondeo. Cheap second hand. Cheap to fix. And the tdci engine is a proper work horse. Wish I had waited for one instead of my vectra estate.
