new mid saw needed...ms362 or ms 391?

Yes and no. On the ranger, open ports are cheaper and more easy to make, and more ubiquitous at that time. On the 555, they actually designed the transfers(which are removable) to be less efficient. It is a part that must be bolted on, so it didn't save any time, it was simply marketing.

hmm the 555 is looking good along side the 365,

 

if i keep my 66 then may as well go 555,however the 365 looks quite a simple saw...

The high performance cylinders are a specialist casting and are mostly made by Mahle (stihl use them also) the bolt on covers for the transfer ports are simpler casting and production costs are much lower and are made in house by husqvarna despite the extra production steps.

 

The old style open transfer ported cylinders such as on the rancher do not work with an x torque/air head/strato charge engine, its a simple work around to keep costs down on an engine which is not a full bananas pro saw eg 560 xp.

They aren't even remotely related. We're talking 555 VS 560 here. The Rancher was a non-sequitor.

There are two different 365's. The old style is a 65cc standard two stroke design. The 365xt new version is a 71cc strato-charged design. A new 365xt will easily out cut a 555, and do it with much more bar on it. Having said that, unless the price is good, I would wait to see what sort of AT answer Husqvarna is about to release in the 70cc category to replace the first gen AT in the 576's.

 

The MS362 is a non m-tronic, first gen strato design. It is heavy and sluggish by current standards. I would expect an M-Tronic version shortly to better compete with the 560's.

its the 365xt im looking at yes,want to run it at 16"/18" bar or so...looks about right for a mid range saw..

Yep i know.

My comment related to previous one that its a marketing thing. Its partly true of course but there is a big difference between the 555 cylinder and 560.

Im not comparing to the old open transfer ported cylinders :) ...that was my point lol
