Climbing the UK's Tallest Tree

Hi all,

 

Some of you may have seen previous threads when myself and 4 colleagues with the backing of STIHL and Safety Technology travelled up to Scotland in the hunt for the UK's tallest tree - The Tall Trees Project - Part 1.

 

I didn't realise but a neighbouring landowner actually filmed the ascent (or most of it!). Hope you enjoy it.

Towards the end of the month we'll be embarking on part 2 of the project - climbing Englands tallest tree with the Sparsholt College National Diploma in Arboriculture Year 2 students, so we'll keep you posted!

Can you guarantee 100% that that is Scotland's tallest tree?

I wonder why noone from Scotland was part of the team climbing 'Scotlands tallest tree' maybe the English could have done there part, the Welsh their part and the Northern Irish their part.

 

you know cut down on all these road miles, reduce our 'carbon footprint'.

I wouldn't put my house on it! It is the tallest known tree and as I'm sure you know, trees of this size tend to stand out. There are whole stands of trees in Wales reaching the 60m mark so there could well be taller trees out there... the hunt continues!

There is a Western Hemlock in a private garden in Argyll that is believed to be over 200ft. Access is restricted by the owner. Its growing near the base of a waterfall in a sheltered glen.
