hedgelaying isnt a easy way to earn good money sometimes you will earn good money on a hedge and on another you will work your butt off and get nowhere same with any job you have to take the good with the bad

Hawthorn can be nasty and I've found the domestic / small holding most likely customers. Farmers tend for the flail for sheer economy, speed and capacity

I do quite a lot of hedge laying Devon style on HLS grants for farmers, tends to be around 5 quid a meter and they are usually well overgrown. Can be quite good money if you put the effort in, sometimes I'll start a hedge at 7.30am and keep going till 7.30 in the evening with only the odd break so I can do 30-40 meters in a day or so but Devon style is quicker than others so that helps it to be more cost effective for the customer.

I looked into getting a 20m hedge layed. It seems to be £10 - £15 per meter (south Derbyshire) and they aim to do around 10m a day.

It's a course I would like to do.

but in 10 20 30 50 years to come youd be able to say I did that hedge,

work will be around for years, unless of course some bugger digs up ya hegde

 

do a few contests as well, surprising how many landowners pop to see them get work from that.

Once happy do a few county shows like HS and I do ,

1 good fun & meet plenty of interesting(or is that strange:001_tongue:/interested people

2 again surprising how many landowners go to the proper county shows

2a shows normaly over a weekend and you HAVE to stay and guard your hedge armed with a beer and a fire going it while having a laugh with the other stands

its a hard job guarding the hedge had to have a couple of bevvies saturday to give me strength to lay my hedge doing 1ft a hour was such hard work had to rest:biggrin: will not be the same at melplash 10yard cant in 5 hours now thats going some. still bacon buttie and coffee should set me up for day. glad you had a good day Dorset jad a brill day at Alresford as you say the right people who want hedges laid. will speak to you on bone or at melplash.
