It's has no disk drive but you can get one of these or a cheaper one,[ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Portable-External-Writer-SE-208DB/dp/B009NRPKVU/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1377857270&sr=1-3&keywords=samsung+external+cd+drive+reader]Samsung Slim Portable External DVD Writer USB (8x DVD / 24x CD) White SE-208DB: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories[/ame]

But all the modern computers usually recognize printers when there plugged in.

...it must accept a disc..

Hmm, by this do you mean 3.5" floppy? thats long gone, but you may be able to get a USB connected one.

... as I need it to pair with with an old but really good HP laser printer, budget £450.

I would just download the drivers for your HP printer, have a poke around their support site they still have the drivers for LaserJet 4 & 5s etc.

If you cant find it post the model, I may have them.

Get a Mac. £150 will get you a serviceable 2005 model PowerBook G4 which will do all you want. Newer Intel based models are nice but not necessary for general office duties, though you may be able to get a MacBook Pro for £450.

Plug your laser printer in and it will just work- many drivers are preinstalled and if not you can just download it.

No viruses, no constant security updates, no crashes. If you don't like it, and I guarantee you will, then you can sell it for what you paid for it.

Think of it as buying a second hand Stihl compared to a new Chinky special. If you were closer I'd lend you one to try.

Agreed (almost) & you will still be using it in 6 years time,

'No viruses' certainly no x86 based viruses, but there are attack vectors for the Mac, I would say almost none, the are a few Trojans but require user intervention to install them - this usually comes in some form of social engineering - install this to view.... However, the good news is the fairly robust Sophos Antivirus is free for Macs:

Mac Antivirus | Free Antivirus for Mac Tool Download | Sophos

Whilst on the security front, the utility 'little snitch' (which I use in addition to a hardware firewall) this rather good program intercepts & alerts outgoing communication & advises with an allow or deny see Little Snitch
