Barrel cleaning

Has anyone got any tips on how to get 8 years worth of baked on chain oil off a Stihl barrel? rather than good old elbow grease! I did have a search through old threads, no avail. Cheers.

Hot soapy water, wd40

Cut it off the fins with a craft knife

Oven cleaner or cillit bang after the worst has been removed :-)

Flash with bleach is very good at dissolving sap and oil etc from saws. Spray it on leave it 10 mins or so rinse and keep applying until clean. The aid of a toothbrush can help if really thick.

Thats a good call - it does work, usually I use carb cleaner or GT85, work on the fins with a craft knife and the rest with a screw driver, nothing is magical - some powerful oven cleaners work but nothing is an easy option!

Aerosol Jizer works a treat.

Don't use anything caustic on an aluminium barrel unless you rinse it off really quickly and thoroughly, it will keep eating away at it.
