Hi

Thinking a 550xpg to replace my 346xpg. Although i see lots of threads about 550 problems. So what is the consensus? Get one the problems sort them selves out or avoid like the plague.

Stihl, Husky, Stihl, Husky...... Laugh.

I bought the 550XPG to back up my 346XP.

One of the earlier ones and I had a couple of issues. Brake band snapped (early known fault, with the part now upgraded by Husky).

Warm starts could be grumpy as hell. Still are occasionally.

But when it's cutting, it's an absolute belter. Love it every bit as much as my 346 (which I wouldn't part with anyway). It's a great little animal of a saw.

I have one at work & the clutch springs keep snapping, it's been back to dealers half dozen times, apart from that & grumpy warm starts its a great saw but no where near a 254xpg.

The 560 is great too, but if you're using a 13"/15" bar on your 346 just now for forestry/woodland snedding up, then its a 550 all the way.

If you use 15" mainly and could make use of 18" more often, then the 560.

The little bit of extra weight on the 560 does tell on you at the end of a long day snedding, which is why my mate's looking at a 550 to back up his 560.

Personally I would stay clear for the amount of trouble/issues they have. However I will hold my hand up and say its through what ive read and not the fact ive owned one.

Ive also seen my local dealer has them on special offer and being a newish out saw is unlike them, they either aren't selling as many as they should be or they want to clear out the stock.

Haven't used the 550xpg but have a 560xp nothing but problems, it's been sent back to husky and having to wait a min of 4 weeks to get it back, great saw when it works but can't trust it for a day miles up in the hills!

I got one eight months ago pile of junk mine has been. Its gone back know for the ninth time but as some say they've had no problems with the newer ones so maybe all the known faults have been sorted. The way this is being sorted out is a joke so its Stihl for me from now on.
