Thanks for taking the time to make and explain the video. For many of us self employed people we rarely get the opportunity to work with other, more experienced climbers. Your videos give us the opportunity to learn from others and their experiences. Keep em coming.

I put the wedge in parallel to the hinge, gives more lift and takes up less room in the cut.

 

Worth noting that doing that can cause it to lift too much on one side, pop - or partially pop - the hinge and influence the direction of fall. But does also have all the plus points you list.

At the top of a dead pole in the situation required for my parallel tapping of a little plastic wedge , i am are not trying to thump over a back leaner, just nudge something off balance.:001_smile:

Stevie, with the type of trees in question you have to get a wedge in while your cutting to stop the whole thing rocking and potentially weakening the hinge as it takes shape....in which case you cant put a wedge in sideways because the bar is already taking up that space. Generating more lift is not the point. which you woulda know if you'd watched the whole thing :biggrin:
