Hawthorn prick

Did a standard Hawthron hedge reduction today, nothing out of the ordinary.

Got a few stabs in the hand as per usual, but this time the wounds are swelling and really hurting.

I took stab in the thumb nuckle which went right into the bone joint, it's come up like a balloon and I can't touch or move it.

I've got the thorn out intact but bloody hell it's painfull, as it happens I've a doctors appointment tomoz so I'll have it seen to then.

I was once told that at certain times of the year hawthorn or any thorn can have a bacteria or something on which makes them potentailly dangerous, is it a load of poo or has anyone else heard this.

Never normally have any problems but this time every wound is swollen and sore.

hawthorn releases histamin into the body, a jab in the knuckle is worse than the thorn for pain, but the thorn can lead to septisemia, i left one for about 10 days, tried to dig it out myself before going to the drs for the pain, she gave me hell, a course of anti biotics for a week. get it looked at asap dean.

Dean - make sure you see the doc.... septacemia is a serious problem... ultimatley it can kill you or lead to a blood transfusion or amputation..

We all get pricked by thorns etc but if it swells up then thats the first sign of septacemia, the second being alot of pain, infection, poison line etc..

Easily treated, but you might be recommended by your doc to get a tetanus jagg to boot.
