Did you find that right at the top with all the crown around you is fine and as you gradually strip it off until you have a stick it starts to get more twitchy . Yopur at the top ready to start sectioning down and there is nothing but blue sky all around you !

 

The feel of a tree also changes as you strip it out. Once you're down to just a pole it always feels much more..... wobbly/bouncy/shakey??? I've never understood why that is, does anyone know? Is it just me?

Fear is good, you need to harness the fear, use it to make the right decisions , it keeps you safe... Keep calm and carry on ...

The damping affects of limbs. Each twig, limb etc absorbs movement like wind forces and damps it, by the time the force reaches the stem its much less

The mass of the attatched limbs and leaves damps the induced movements caused by the climber.

Once down to a bare pole it becomes more "lively", plus the not inconsiderable psychological factor of feeling more exposed.

From a ground dewellers viewpoint.

At 54 I have learned to live with my irrational fear of heights, now being able to work at height, despite still being "feart"

Possibly due to the Mrs. repeatedly explaining that I am now redundant as her child bearing years are past.

But to miss-quote that Wall Street saying

"Fear is good"

It ensures survival.

after 1000 times things change. I now prefer to only climb the hard trees, most the time i spend on the ground or on the winches.
