There's no way of knowing if he had knowledge of what was going on. It may have been instigated by an estate manager, head keeper etc.

That's not to say it's right but he will be carrying the can maybe for his employees actions,

If they are his employees, it's up to him to know what they are doing. :001_smile:

True but he may employ them to run his estate as he hasn't the time or knowledge to do so. If that's the case there may be a job coming up:001_smile:

Anyone heard of vicarious liability??

For all we know, the estate may be managed by a land agent or management company.

The article only gives one side of a story...

How would you feel if you did a similar job for someone only to find out after it was an illegal felling and be blamed because you were the contractor??

I'd feel like a bit of a plum for not doing my own checking. :001_smile:

Obviously, yes... but the point is that guys with that kind of money rarely manage their own land directly.

Usually it is managed through other people like estate managers, foresters, head keeper, land agent, management company etc..

I'm not sticking up for the boy, as whatever happens on your land is your responsibility at the end of the day - however, I do feel in this case the media have sensationalised it for a better story - it would be good to hear both sides of the story and then form an opinion.. :001_smile:

I am an estate manager for a Sunday Times Rich Lister and directly employed by his company. I have regular meetings to discuss matters on that estate, as well as property his company owns elsewhere. This is common sense, as it means he is fully aware of what is going on. Fortunately, a situation like this would not arise in our case as, not only am I obsessive about checking for TPOs etc, he and his family are very much into enjoying the wildlife on the estate so my remit is to encourage nature rather than trash it. :001_smile:
