Why does it cost £5m to cut down the conifers you don't want, leave them to rot and let the native trees grow back? And what is it's "native state"?? So that's folly!

You obviously haven't read the story.

 

£5m to buy the site, and pay for the next 20 years of work, including creating 30 miles of footpaths.

 

Sounds like a bargain, although whether its necessary or desirable is another matter.

Not to far away from me. The majority of it was planted in the 40's after the war. (My granddad was 1 of the planters)

Theres prob not as many footpaths as you probably would imagine there although its used by lots of dog walkers and tourist.

Its largely remained untouched in its time, makes some sense to clear some of it out but im sure theres more to it than whats being said.

Sorry only pressed on the link. As you say if you go onto the full story from there, its a big and exciting project. Sounds like their taking it slowly approach will be good.

Good idea connies were brought in to give us a fast growing wood supply after WW2 when there was a shortage of home grown wood.

What would you rather see, miles upon miles of non native trees, or natural majestic native oak etc.

why do peaple hate the conifers were do you think we are going to get our timber from i say plant the lot with mixed woodland who says this was it native state the country side is peaples work place not a country park thers plenty of those full of litter and junkies

Take a look at the rest of the oak on the moor. It's crap.
