I just had a similar dilemma. Never built a log store for a customer so had no idea how much to charge. Fancied a change from gardening so gave it a go.

Thought I bit off more than I could chew when they said they wanted it to match the lines of the existing outbuilding and for it to be slated with authentic old roof slate! Clearance, design, construction, erection on site, roof slating and ridge tiles and painting (two coats). I even stacked full of logs!!!

Have no idea what I should of charged, would love to know what anyone else thinks.

Difficult to say without knowing exact size, but at a guess that would take me around 2-3 days all in, plus materials, I'd be lookin at charging around 500-600 for soft wood. What did you charge?

I also would of raised front collar to left plate so the lines were a little smoother. Top job though bud. Looks nice.

The problem I had was the differing height of the wall it sits against. I designed some alternatives with a cleaner symmetrical line but they opted for this design.

It is approx 7' width, 3' depth and nearly 8' to the ridge. The measuring, design and build took 12 hours, clearing, forming pads, erection, slating, painting and loading with chopped wood took 18 hours, 4 hours spent sourcing and collecting reclaimed materials. Slate and ridge tiles cost £100 (including fuel to collect). Charged a total of £750 for the entire works. Clearance was a slight issue as the area had a raised concrete platform and brickwork, not sure what it was from but had to be cleared.

I have opted to stick to gardening and light arb work since as the margins are better, it was good fun to see a project through though while work was quiet.

Considering mine was a quick guesstimate and didn't account for filling with logs, we weren't a million miles apart.

That's the kinda thing I do a lot. I Enjoy it. Probably increase ya margins with a little practice and speed. Also the roof materials seem very expensive.

Worth considering a 10CM one too i think.

Pent roof would be popular too and in keeping with an oak framed house. In conjunction with a gutter and water but would be how would use it myself. Very nice.

Companies like broadoak, prime oak charge about £15000 for a full oak frame garage. I think you could happily charge £2500-3000minimum for a pent roofed, shingled store. And people would pay it. Considering i make chunky oak benches consisting of oak beam off cuts for £450 from time to time.

Very true. I suppose that depending on your marketing and attention to final detail, the sky is almost the limit!

Here are a couple of pictures of the finished store, filled with 21 cubic metres of firewood and with a nice gate on it.
