is it me or havent ISC's HMS's & Lukes been like this for many years?

not exactly the same but the spines are too thick for a hitch-climber or fixed cheek micro pulley etc to slide round

They did so specifically for IRA guys who were complaining about side loading.

I'm guessing the gate won't fit through a small dmm axis swivel?

Had a check and the swivel wont pass the gate but will pass the horn bit. So it will sit at the bottom of the carabiner fine.

Ah, sad. Thanks anyway. I use a spiderjack and a swivel, and it doesn't work as well as I'd like...
