recommended camp sites in Normandy/Brittany

Any recommendations for a decent camp site in Normandy or Brittany.

Too much to choose from on the internet and dont know the region.

Looking to pop over for a few days later in the month with the children.

Ideally near the sea and a few options of things to do in the area for a couple of active and inquisitive little ones - age 6 & 8.

Your best bet is just go over and find one when you get there !! as you say they are everywhere, some of the smaller cheaper ones wont be advertised. There's a great one in Bayeaux I went to a few years ago if your interested in seeing the ww2 beaches !

Reckon you should be ok, we travelled France for four months and never had an issue !! Loads of sites to go at !! Only place we had a slight problem was in Bayeaux - but it the 60th anniversary of d day !! Still found a site tho !! Have a great time it's a great country to visit !!

Have you tried Norfolk Lines. Used to get good deals from them squeezed in with the wagons.

There is one at Omaha beech I have stayed at plenty to see.. cant remember much about it ...too much calvados and Stella.

Haven't tented over there so can only comment on attractions. Thought Bayeux was generally overpriced. The D Day museums are generally excellent and can particularly recommend the 360 at Arromanches and the Pegasus Bridge museum at Ranville-Benouville. It's a lovely place to visit and you should try the Galettes at Roche du Ham.

There is a good website, something like "camping a la ferme" and its small farm type sites with local produce and the like. I stayed at one in the swiss normande a couple of years back and it was fairly basic but nice and quiet.

 

A really good museum is Dead mans corner, between Carantan (a nice town imo) and st. mere eglise. Very much worth a visit, especially if you have seen band of brothers recently!

 

Granville is great for eating out, a haunt of the Parisians, there is a great little cafe there called piquorette, in the old part of down, opposite the casino. Owner speaks fairly good english too. Avoid the ex-pat bars at all costs!
