Oldwoodcutter, did your velcro waist one have straps over the arms also?

No mate, just 6" wide with heavy duty velcro to adjust it,was ok when you're upright, but found that it would burst apart when you bent down as velcro not up to it. With the buckled leather one nothing moves.

Use it or lose it - in this case your muscles.

for general stuff, use good lifting technique and look after yourself with building up core strength as Spud said.

Try to avoid heavy lifting where possible, but where you have to, a support might be useful, but dont wear it all the time else, as Matt Norman said, your muscles will deteriorate.

Everything in moderation - your body needs to be used, but not abused. Like most things in life, it is a balancing act.

Question is in the title lads. I've been in the business for around four years, I'm 28, my back is in great nick and I would like to keep it that way.

I lift with good technique, had a manual handling course and came across such devices to help keep my technique from getting bad as the day goes on.

Do you of you wear one every day?

I have a big weight-lifters belt that I use when I know that I'm going to do heavy lifting. 26 years older than you and I'm glad for it as there's many worn parts inside now! My back fails in a big way from time to time but I try to give it all the help I can:001_rolleyes:

My Neo is a "York" one that I picked up from a sports shop and the elastic stayed one I got from a place called the Range in Norwich, they are about all over the show though. The elastic one had shoulder strap thingys but I just cut them off. Neither was very expensive from memory. Stay fit and happy!

I'm required to wear a support belt for other reasons than to protect my back. I have neoprene ones with Velcro and they are the hottest most uncomfortable things I've ever had to wear in my life. I don't have a problem with the Velcro undoing itself, however I move, but I do get annoyed with them rucking up and the rucks getting uncomfy. I get them on prescription, so they don't cost me anything, and they do a good job of protecting me....except when I left it off the other day...stupid hurts!!
