Hey guys,

A little advice please.

When making picnic benches and garden furniture from woods like cedar or latch how much seasoning us required?

Also how long do you season oak for these purposes?

I think not much at all is required, but would be interested what others think.

Tnx

James

james Im sure your going to get lots of different answers here but my two pennies worth is, cedar needs as long as you can give it,otherwise it tends to split a bit on knots etc, the benches I made for the pub ,had timber from 9mths old milling, and have had too go back a few times( what a bind lol) to sand out a few bits and pieces, the benches I made up last summer had timber which had been dried for two yrs,and have had no problems,

As with oak I leave it for a yr per inch, and for outside furniture this seems fine, Ive also taken on board Big J`s coments and dont mill boards in the summer, just beams, unless I have to with the alaskan on a tree job in the back garden!

I am in the furtunate position of having enough timber to keep a rolling stock ,so waiting isnt a problem, presuming I last that long,lol.....
