I've never found a band for holding the hitch cord necessary. I would recommend 8mm Sirius cord. One length lasts me around a month or two, its lovely cord, and cheap as chips!

 

You will get faster setting it up in the morning, but to be honest I rarely take mine apart. When you pull your rope out of the tree just move your rope through the hc till its back up near your spliced eye. Good to go again for next time.

Fair play buts it's good practice to take it off at the end of your day.....

May have burnt through more than you think also by taking it off and re-tying when you next climb.... Evens out the wear around the cord and helps prevent the flatness you can get

Hi Guys....been using the hitch climber set up.....seems to take a while to set-up first thing.....am I doing something wrong or is this the norm....I dont know shall I stick with it or go back to the old way of doing things (blakes hitch).

what do you use a band to retain the friction cord from moving on the krab?

matty, if you use a 13mm split tail for your blakes on 13mm climbing line, try this for a while (using the hitchclimber pulley) then switch to the swabisch using the cord you got with the hitchclimber. Re blakes setup with micro pulley - it's old school by today's standards but it's a good transition to using a micro pulley to tend slack etc. The blakes can be shortened right down to reduce sit back.

another option is to just do away with the hitchclimber pulley altogether and go for a simple single carabiner and swabisch/micropulley setup

My set up. Or was. It's a bit tidier with the ends now. Left them a bit longer so I could try different knots.

Here goes getting ready for the abuse.....I cant seem to get the hitch to lock out when climbing up hand over hand, I tend the slack by pulling the tail of the rope...as soon as I let go I slide back down the rope unless i dress the hitch each time.....If thats the case I might as well carry on with the blakes hitch? please help any sensible suggestions welcome

Try starting off with a distel knot (there's a guide to tying one on here). It grips much easier and is good to get used to before moving on to a VT. Or you could try using a VT (a bit sportier, sometimes prone to not gripping) with three or even 4 wraps. Again, there's an explanation in the knot guide.

 

Experiment with different knots until you find one you're comfortable with.

have tried a couple just thought once the slack was tended to, the hitch should lock and hold you?
