Consumeristic waste of money?

I agree with GTR' on this one. You know the history of your own PPE. So before the expiry date if its been in an accident or been treated too harshly. But I every year regardless... why the extra cost.

Depending on the lid and defenders, I'd probably just replace the defenders or replace the defective bits. Mind, if the lid's only got a few months left on it, I can see the logic in replacing the whole thing. And with recycling the way it is, you can get everything except the foam in the muffs turned into loft insulation or a garden bucket.

To be honest the lid I brought was a bad choice from the go. Will not be buying another. Just going to the show so will be a good chance to get a new one.

Not really, it gives an indication of age.

I've often seen this as an odd one. But you tend to find hard hats are usually sold on fast turn around and for H&S the date stamp generally means 4-5 years of use. Any other way would allow unscrupulous employers to keep staff in much older hats. Our hats don't last 5 years anyway. Generally get too tatty.

I bet the hats have a shelf life & an out of the box life. Say 8 to 10 years from date of manufacture or 3 to 5 years from first usage which ever date comes first.

Re the main issue. I would say that PPE should be changed when the wearer is not happy with it even if that is well before its end of expected life time. However the same attitude with other consumer goods is a big problem for the world.
