So I set myself up with a base anchor and tie like Fredward did in his photo above.

As you can see, it's a lowerable system (2 ropes tied together) so long as I don't go through any redirects.

Maybe Santa will bring the long rope I've been coveting!

I would strongly recommend a figure of 8 with ears in this application.. As we all know base anchors end up going slack at some point during the climb. In which case the figure of 8 can end up with a girth hitch.. either that or just pop a bight through a normal figure of 8 and clip the bight into the biner... safety first kids.. theres no point in having a lowerable system that gets stuck

I'm sure you're making a good point Ben but I can't imagine how the girth hitch could happen.

I'll try and make it happen tomorrow if I remember.

Is anyone using descenders like and Id or Rig for base anchors? Theoretically should be good no? Hard lock it through karabiner That way no knots to contend with; lower climber/casualty to ground straight forward

Some people do use them but I don't because I don't have one and they're so expensive.

You're right Ben. I wiggled it around today and saw how it can invert and become a girth hitch.

Thanks

For pointing this out.

Rig good. ID bad. Panic feature gets a bit funky and engages all the time due to the friction over the branch/es
