I've owned a makita it was a belting saw .. Note the was as it is no more and only after a short time to, shame 026/260 is the way as as previously said reliable and more importantly fixable

hi i bought a cheap £80 saw from ALDI superstore made by british mower company and it has cut up hunderds of tonnes of cord wood for logs and still going strong.If it only lasted 12 months it will still be cheaper than stihl ect and all parts are avialable (havent needed any yet in four years off ownership).

The 1.1mm gauge bar I suggested was to keep the kerf to a minimum, and maximise efficiency.

 

Given that he's processing by the car boot load as opposed to the artic load, how quick do you think he needs to be? Why not get a Palax? Better to have a lightweight saw with no possibility of unforseen mechanical problems (or if they are they will be sorted under warrranty). Anti vibe is excellent and so is fuel economy.

Husqvarna 135. My other half's Dad got one from Forest and Arb for about £150 last year and has nothing but praise for it. He uses it for exactly what you plan to do, namely cutting Arb waste. You can easily afford a new one with your budget, and a couple of spare chains plus a sharpening kit.
