How to go about pricing it

Hi all

Been asked to price to clear a section of ground.

It's about a football field size. However it's on a slope , not big i would say the slope is 10 meters then the ground levels out. Problem is that it levels out into what is best described as a mine flood plane to a small stream. So my boots were sinking good in it.

The company that owns the site came in with a mid sized digger which slid into the flood plain area and sank up to the cab! They had to bring in a 30t 360 to pull it out.

So I believe that's why they have thought sod this lets sub it out.

It involves felling mostly large Alders but ther is 1 big oak (2m plus girth) and another large ash.

They want a price to remove all timber, chip stay on site or chip and leave timber in manageable size( for a digger).

I reckon a 4man crew with machinery would take 2wks to do it but tbh I have not ever had to price something like this and thought I would ask if anybody has any advice.

At the moment all I am thinking think of a large number, then double it, maybe double it again! Lol

Ay thoughts, advice and especially advice on machinery would be greatly appreciated.

The site is in Wentworth, just down from Ascot, Berkshire.

Thank you

I would price it for worst case and then add more on, if you get the job you want to be able to make good money from it if you dont get it then you didnt want it for cheaper money!

Before I moved to Sussex 3 yrs ago I used to run my own Garden Maintenance Company covering Windsor, Ascot, Virginia Water areas, I'm surprised there's a site like this in Wentworth, I did some site clearance for a property developer who built 6 large houses (£3 million each) all round that area. Do make sure you change extra for the "Wentworth" factor and don't wake Sir Bruce up he's at no !6! Good bacon sandwiches from the cake shop at Virginia Water.

Make sure you price in a decent contingency as that sounds like it has the potential to take far longer than you'd think. If you can't get vehicles in you might want to hire a big winch to drag the felled trees to firm ground for processing. Rather you than me, sounds like a nightmare.
