Question

My garden boarders my self home grown cover and wood piles and wood chip piles, cover is now about 10 years old and has just reached canopy closure, mixed evergreen and deciduous trees, very diverse species mix of trees, I also maintain a variety of different grass heights where it still grows, the range of wildlife is now vast, Owls, Fox, Badger , Deer, Small lizards, lots of snakes. Last year was the first time I had noticed them with possibly 20 to 30 sightings , this year starting this month its reached the point that I now have to be very careful when walking outside, they are fantastic but could they kill a Jack Russel, Found one again just now while out with one of me dogs , dog did not see it and the Adder (i think) was eating a Toed so had it mouth full. Sent some photos to another member and hopefully he will post. Great to see them but why so many or is it just one or two that i keep seeing.

Spiders, worms, maggots, frogs no problems.

Thinking about what you say I am sure it's the fast little ones that freak me out most.

Once one of them little feckers has got a grip of ya ... S**t, my ar5e is twitching just thinking about it.

How should you get them off if they do bite you?

Hahahahahaha.!!!

Dunno why Slow Worms are called 'Slow' they're NOT. They're Fast Lightening getting away. Corns Usually let go .. With Andy he wore a Leather Glove and one of the Fangs must of got stuck in the glove itself. IF it doesnt let go within a couple Seconds you can Gently Unwrap it. Thats Rare it'll Hang on to you though :thumbup1:

1) Always Wash Your Hands With Cold Water and a Non-Fragrant Soap Regularly .. Before & After Feeding, Before and After Handling, Before and After Cleaning out your Vivarium.

2) Dont Open the Same Feeding Hatch All the Time

3) Dont Annoy the Snake Before Feeding

4) Dont Tease the Snake with Food or It Will Probably Strike at You Instead

5) Dont Feed them Live Mice/Rat pups, Reason being, Brings out the Natural Killer Instincts and turns them 'Wild' again

6) Get to Know when the Natural Breeding Season is for your Snake (Males are more Aggressive during this time)

7) Handle you pet as much as possible, ONLY AFTER STEP 1.

8) Feed your pet Regularly

I beat one to death with a walking stick when I was about 13 once, and to this day regret what a senseless and barbaric act that was.

My mate had recently lost a Cocker to an adder bite, so snake hatred was running high. No excuse.

They are pretty stunning creatures, and I've been lucky enough to observe a few since.

I'm always wary with my lab in certain spots on warm days though.

Why did you have a walking stick at 13?

Just incase you met an adder?

Or a bad leg?
