No until people realise you should charge the same for any wood the better. It takes the same amount of time and effort to split it and store it and deliver it.

Really! I will give that a go I have a load of goat willow destined for the fire heap I will give it a try on my next order??

haha Dan!!

I'm seriously considering selling 3 levels of firewood this year, premium ash etc, premium softwood and budget stuff (willow pop etc)

I sell all woods mixed so you get a mix of goat willow, pop, ash, oak, conifer all in one go. The average customer is not that well discerning usually. I am clear that it is a mixed load of hard and softwood. I've had no complaints that would be because its dry and it burns well. We've had it drilled into us by poems and myth and stove manufacturers that some woods are useless. They all burn when dry. And for that I am going warming the water up with some manky old but very dry pop.

Ok thanks when I start advertising I shall be asking for £150 for them, im currently charging £55 for a bulk/dumpy bag, how does that compare with other people?

I did measure the trucks volume in cubic yards not meters, not sure why:001_rolleyes:

your truck looks similar (a rough guess) as my 1.8cube trailer and I charge £150 for that and that is going up this year. I'm £65 for a 0.6 cube bulk bag

If you are buying in at different rates I would still charge the same myself I run a business not a charity. It helps that I sell mixed loads as you don't need to specify what the wood is. Its a mix. If you sell purely hardwoods then say it is mixed hardwood you aren't telling any lies. Your profit margin maybe higher purely due to the decrease in the raw material cost but your labour and fuel etc are going to be the same.

I know what your saying, when clients ring the first thing they ask is 'what wood is it' some will take mixed but most want good quality hardwoods which I am happy to provide at a premium of course! We burn willow, pop, conny etc on the Rayburn as said it burns fine when dry, it's just customers perception and I think most of it comes from those silly poems and log burner installers insisting on certain wood.
