niceone rob i remember seeing that tree with the cool limb when i was there last year:thumbup1:

 

Its a cool place for trees, wonder who has the arb/hort contract or if its all in house.

 

If it wasn't so damn expensive is go there more!

I would imagine the tree was folded over, splittng on the top as it went some time ago. Then the original leader died (and was cut off) so a secondary branch became the current leader. The ribs are wound wood callousing over the dead portion of the original trunk. Cool tree

Started volunteering at a local rundown old country estate thats now being done up and taken over by the heritage trust. They've got some amazing specimen trees, a lot of different cypress, cedars and the oldest yew in lancashire!

 

This is one of the swamp cypress that dates back to between 1860-1880, which was recorded as falling over around 1920-1940ish, well, its still growing!
