One metre.

I have a reasonable sized Ash to take down soon that is situated between two houses and on a small patch of ground that the public has access to, ie just the spot where kids will play. The housing association want it down to the ground and stump treated but I think it should be left at a metre high or ground out. Will I be breaking HSE guidelines/rules or what ever you call them if I take it to ground level as the housing association want it ?

If it in a path or walkway then yes, out or left high.

If its a grass verge next to path then no its OK low, as I understand it, too be a trip hazard it would have to be in or on the path.

Just be honest, you don't want to shift any more timber than you have to, just get a bigger truck :sneaky2:

Another way to look at it, if its Willow or Pop leave high, Ash or Beech as low as poss :sneaky2:

We always take to one metre unless we are grinding on the same day as removal. If they do want it taken down (leaving a trip-hazard) get housing to put something in writing stating that they are aware of their responsibilities and should an accident occur, you are not responsible.

i have never heard of this before, makes sense i suppose, i have timber to collect from council jobs and they have all been flushed and arent getting anything else, oh mick, that butt sounds like 60quid of firewood to me, get it flushed and logged, big kit eh, i wonder who could sell you sum????:001_smile:

you probably have 5k on this wee ash anyway lol
