Been climbing for 10 year, for no particular reason i fancy trying the hitch climber, done several climbs just recreational and few low dismantles, the vt grips almost every time, just occasionally it doesn't grip , just would like to know if its right

11.5mm tacyon, 85mm of 8mm op

I recently made the switch from a Distel to a VT on my Hitchclimber. I use Tachyon with 8mm OP. I have found it slip but a quick flick of the top coil with my thumb seems to remedy this.

From reading other threads on VT's I thought that it slipping slightly if not dressed was just a characteristic of the hitch?

Daniel.

Cheers lads, going to have a trial of a few cords and even try a few different knots, distel look really neat on Ce lanyard so try it, also Knut

It's refreshing trying some new, many people still use Prusik, nothing wrong with that of course but sometimes change is a good as a rest

Transition has been quite difficult, especially accending, just different techniques and methods are employed, I'm hoping to take on an apprentice and think it apt to be able to advise on different styles, or he can probably show me

A Knut out performs a VT any day IMO nothing wrong with stitched eyes there better than spiced eyes, as a stitch has no bury! so there for leaving a lot more cord to play with, this is why I use a short hitch 75cm is a perfect length for a 3 wrap Knut with minimal sit back. The VT is so temperamental it bugs the hell out of me. Like rupe has said you do need to set it sometimes to make sure it grabs :)

.yeah only problem with the Knut is it burns through your hitch cords very fast. especially on half hitch bit on bottom. your VT looks good to me, i dont like having to grab/set my hitch everytime i want it to hold. i dont reckon thats very safe ay, i think you should be able to pull under the pulley and sit back, that is a safe knot to me.

Could not agree with that anymore mate. Think we've both said this before in a post but very true.

as for the Knut being a tad more aggressive on the hitch ??? Mmmmmm! I've never found this out myself but then again I've never used a VT long enough to see :)
