Hello all, I've set myself up as a sole trader, with the intention of becoming a freelance groundsman / 2nd climber (when I have more experience).

I'm after the average daily rate for both jobs, so I know where to pitch myself in, with the idea of offering a discount daily rate for the first couple of months in order to get my name out there, and takin into account my experience level.

Also, can I offset the cost of equipment for the start up of the business against my tax at the end of the year? Not sure if the rules are different concerning sole trader and ltd company.

Thanks in advance,

Gordon

What is your experience level? That'll help with a more accurate answer :001_smile:

Cheers Billy, so as a new in experienced groundie I'd probably set my daily rate at around £65/70 possibly moving up as my experience and speed progresses. Depending on local going rates, seem reasonable?

Yeah I appreciate that, having recently passed cs38/39 I realise there is a hell of a lot more to learn than just passing the course.

As a business owner would you employ someone such as myself?

I am still seeking unpaid experience too, called round the local firms and had a few promising conversations but nothing as yet
