It certainly has, well it's all sharpened up now cutters equal length, depth gauges brought down, so now I can relax

The blueing is nothing to do with your usage, it was on the bar when it arrived, its part of the heat treatment to make the bar durable, what you have done is taken a bit of paint off to expose the colour.

 

Its probably not possible to create that kind of heat by friction with a chain and if you could the chain would get just as hot and you would have noticed the chain oil burning off the bar and plastic bits melting and dripping off your saw just before it caught fire.

Good to know I didn't do the bluing, yeah I'd be worrying if the saw started

To melt, lesson learned, it's a big learning curve and no doubt not the last mistake I make! Thanks for all your views and insights gents, have a good bank holiday hope the weather is as nice as it is here in Rochdale
