If in doubt (& the tree allows) climb higher & cut smaller

 

The problem there is that if in doubt it usually means your bottles gone on this job and climbing higher normally means the legs are a gogo dancing!!!! lol

That isn't the problem though.. I just dont want to be pulled in if it splits. The photos don't quite do the story justice but the tree is heavy enuf where it turns and it would be fairly torturous to go up any further I reckon. I was thinking about getting the rods out and lightening it off a bit from up there but I said I'd ask you guys first incase ye had some fantastically wonderfull idea's that I don't
