Just made a beauty out of 4 way folded ocean vectran, rated to 22kn It had about 3 passes of lock stitching along to whole length. I would like to break test it but its just so pretty. Some steps along the road to rated tethers, which I am sure cant do any harm for getting the wrench allowed in comps. Even though it doesnt neeeeeed to be rated!!!

Split leg type for the hitch climber and a tad longer than the abr ones so I can run a longer hitch if needed. Will try to get a photo at work tomorrow if i remember. Being 6mm cord, it leaves more room on the biner so I can use 10mm hitch cord and still squeeze it all on a petzl william biner with out loading up the nose of the biner too badly.

Make sure you get up some pics, although I'll probably try and hit up Adam for one of his in the new year. Just don't let anyone know I'm getting a fag wrench or my credibility what little I have will go out the window.

 

As for rated tethers, it's an old subject, but still important, it is taking a load otherwise how else would it work, it's just technically not a life supporting load. Although without it descent would be hard if not impossible there by they partner each other forming a complete system.

I'd be intrested to see it in the comps, in the prelims I doubt there would be much in it. For the masters it could be very infesting to see the different problem solving.

You are right Marc, it forms an integral part of the climbing system and I believe they should be rated.. Why would you risk it for a chocolate bisquit:confused1:

 

In the event of wrench/tether failure, a munter off a leg loop will do the job, with the hitch remaining as a hands off stop. I usually keep a spare biner on my harness anyway.

the ABR ones would be rated on a break to above the strength of the cordage used.

Yea for sure Drew, the abr ones are rock solid with mountains of stitching. I wanted to have a crack at making one for the HC myself. Do abr do split eyed tethers? Ive added another layer of heat shrink to my abr one and put it on my mk1 wrench

no they dont. the new ISC ppulley will enable the tether to fit perfect in between the cheeks of it. i actually like mine on the side of the HC as it makes it sit at right angles away from me

Problem with home made thethers is htat they stretch as soon as their under load seen a friends ocean vectran thether stretch out of the heat shrink. I like the sterling thether had to add more heatshrink though any pics of the new pulley around?
