Is Ash the only wood you can burn green ?

Hi all, don't know if this has been asked before, but why can you burn Ash green, and is their any other woods you can burn green. Saturday i cut down an ash just a small one about 18 years old as i was running short of dry firewood,within the hour i had the log splitter on the tractor and had split the lot. Took 3 wheelbarrow loads into the house to stack beside the log burner to dry off. Put some in the fire and they where the hottest logs i have ever burnt. Put the moisture meter on some as they came in, my meter will only read up 25% and they were on that so could have been a lot more. About 3 hours later i took another reading and they were down to 22%, the next morning took another reading and they were down to 16%. Why sell seasoned Ash when the fresh stuff kicks out the heat and burns lovely ?

They might have been 16% on the outside but if you split it again and measured in the middle it would have been higher

Properly seasoned ash will also be dry right through so won't give off the crap that tars up your chimney ready for a fire at a later date

Green Sycamore burns just as well. But still no gr8 on the chimney

Green sycamore will burn, but not as well as green Ash, IME.

 

Green Hawthorn burns well.

 

As has been said all timber is better seasoned and dry before burning.

 

Winter felled green timber burns better than summer felled, IME.

Recently gave the Father in Law some Laurel cut that day 4" to 6" diameter and he stuck it straight in the log burner without splitting. Told him it won't do the flue any good and he just said 'when can i have some more, that was bloody great?'

Young oak burns faster

Birch will burn green but like the others; tars up the chimney.

Any wood will burn green if you get a hot enough base to the fire ( bon fire is a good example ) but it is not good for your chimney as has been stated .
