Gm is a no no I think. Big corps controlling our food supply even more so than now- bad times

Regarding the human population, our only hope of long term survival is a move off planet. The sooner the better.

More and more people demanding more and more from a planet which is really a closed loop. I know that population growth is slowing and that it should start to level out towards the middle of the century but by then there may be 9 billion of us!

We should be exploring the asteroids and maybe not so much planets like mars. The asteroids have all the resources we need and don't have the handicap of strong gravity for us to get to and get off. Anyway bit of topic!

GM Crops, Pollution, De-forestation, Fracking, CO2 Emissions, Strip Mining all reminds me of a quote from "The Matrix"

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure.

I read or listened to something very relevant to this thread a few days ago, but for the life of me I can't find it, I have a feeling it was on UK Column or here The UK Column - YouTube

Like you say Tony there is so much true and misinformation out there that its hard to know the truth, once you do have an open mind and can see to some degree whats going on it does become a bit of a burden.

I'm lucky in one aspect that I do believe in a higher being and do think this world is merely a testing ground, a bit simplistic maybe but I live by it..

Disease will sort out the population problem. It's natures way of keeping things in check.

I dont think it will, every disease or possible pandemic in the last 50 years we have beaten with modern medicine, the planet has been trying to thin our numbers for a while, but we are too clever for any of it to work.

Dont get me wrong, we are due for another thin, but I cant see it affecting the population that much, at least not the population that is coursing all the problems.
