Definitly a softwood, larch is a good bet. Shame we don't have smell o vision, as most of the soft woods have a distinctive smell.

Looks like it could be Japanese red cedar (Cryptomera japonica). It's very light wood especially when dry.

Colour of that hart wood I'd say yew

The outer doesn't look like eucalyptus to me. I have some rounds of that and the bark is quite unusual. I'm thinking yew. Looks very like some rounds I have been offered. Pity it's been split. At about £10 a foot for a 5-6 inch round it's a good little wood with great finish.

the piece in the round shows branch unions more typical of larch or similar than yew

Not wellie if it burns good . Wellingtonia is almost fire proof !
