Ok wolfman I will answer and try to help out a bit.

Have a look at the rings inside the tank where the gap locks into. See if one of the open part wher the cap fits into before turning hasn't got a lip on the plastic. It's a bit hard to describe, but I have had the exact same thing before and use a sharp knife to remove a burr from the plastic. Cap fits perfect now.

I have had this happen and all I can say is that it happens when the thin plastic plate that goes in to the fuel hole first doesn't turn as you rotate the flippy cap round - it you stick something in the small holes that are in it and help turn it round as you turn the flippy cap, it works fine!

I have filed the edges of the inner cap before and it seems to help. They have driven me mad in the past :lol:

Pushing them in harder seems to make it worse!

Just don't fill it to the top with oil, if you do, tip it back and an air bubble will appear and the level will drop, then pop cap on,

If its full, when you push down the oil doesn't compress, the cap works with down pressure, so the cap thinks its in place!!

But it's not.

They are brilliant and very clever, just takes a bit of getting used to:)

Ethanol in the gasoline ,petrol if you prefer , causes the o-ring to swell up .A complete new cap is about 8 dollars US ,an o-ring about a dollar from a dealer,40 cents generic size, metric .

I managed to break one cap until I figured out what the problem was .Which is not counting the times I've gasolined or oiled my leg .Which kinda sucks to put it bluntly .
