hello all! SIP tree surgeons sleeves are they any good? im fed up of getting thorns in my arms and my arms getting mega scratched due to blackthorn hawthorn and bramble whilst feeding the tracked jensen 9" beast! ive got weilders gloves but need arm protection! many thanks Alex!!

I use them a fair bit, the only problem i find is that my arms get to warm in them

If you've got a lot of thorns to chip, or are cutting a thorn hedge, cut the bottom off a plastic lemonade bottle and cut the neck down to suit your wrist size.

 

Costs nowt and works well, looks silly, good arm protection.

thats a really good idea! but the guys at work would rip it out of me!!!! obviously the sleeves arnt going to provide 100% protection but should stop the majority of thorns! my forearms are covered in loads of small scarrs from 3 years of thorns!! ive recently started wearing a coat to protect my arms but it makes you sweat like mad!! i might just try the sleeves on at a shop and see what there like! thanks for the help guys! alex !!

There are non-arb kevlar products available; Google 'Kevlar sleeves'. They're from the US but if you're looking to wear them a lot they may be worth the investment.

Welding Gauntlets are good but it is hard to use a chainsaw with them on, slipping the right glove off helps use andsafer throttle control.

 

Sips are good and with gauntlets there is no thorns in pinkies or forearms

yeah i use weilding gauntlets at the moment there really good! i just wear anstell hyflex's underneath, slip the gauntlets off and use the saw!! its the quickest way!!

pop into your local saddlers shop and get some chromed leather armlets made up to cover the length of your forearm, any decent saddler or cordwainer should be able to knock some up. I got a cover made for a yorkshire billhook made at my local saddlers, cost about £30.

i just pick it up put it in the hopper and get a shovel and push! using a fork is dodgey as its just the right size to go through the rollers (as one guy working with us found out!!!)
