Hi John, I rough carve with an 066 on a 20" and it cuts great! Bit thirsty mind. Swap to a 36" for big stuff and occasional ripping, would love an 880 though.

Wish I'd had the money to snap one up.

I reckon a Husky 395 as although I haven't got one they seem to have less problems than the 660!

 

 

Get a new one from Jonsie if you can...!

For me it was a toss-up between the 660 and a 395 (just couldn't find the money for larger). I went with the 395, mainly because the local dealer is Husky, and can't fault it so far.

Out of curiousity, does anyone have any experience milling with the biggest Makita (Dolmar), the DCS9010?

 

I seem to remember that it was regarded as being almost indestructible, but it's also reasonably heavy for it's power output. It's £150 cheaper than an MS660, but a touch less power, and £100 cheaper than the 395XP but more powerful. Supposedly (according to arboristsite.com thread) very tunable too.

 

I just like left field choices sometimes!

There's a husky 2101 Xp on eBay at min, I have one with a 33 inch bar supposed to have more guts than 660 but also has extra manual oiler, there old but solid machines, think spec says you can run a 5foot bar, scarey
