I posted this picture a couple of years back and I was thinking of it when I was watching this, last night... just couldn't think where to find it. Thank you.

There's trunks and coast similar to that in parts of Oregon, Washington and north California.

 

Can't quite tell what the tree was. But one of the biggest trunk on the beach photos I've ever seen.

 

Hemlock that size is rare.

 

Now, Sitka Spruce often sprout on a log or stump and extend roots down a few feet. That's not evident on this one, although it's not always like that. But it may be a coast redwood.

Yes thats what i thought, I have seen some large ones on the beach in N California , also if you ever watch the movie `The Goonies` you can see a few shots of a beach with some large trunks and I think it was filmed in N California or poss S Oregon.

Seen that picture before somewhere, I think it was claimed to be thuja. How reliable the source was I don't know....

Thuja seems realistic.

 

There's been some big ones around. Trunk looks close enough.
