Ok i think i see now. Thanks for advice. just had a look around and found this on climbing arborist Advanced climbing techniques | Setting up a false crotch system I like the look of that system. Ill give it a go me thinks! Has anyone tried/use this system? good/bad..?

No thats true but Aeris is much lighter and I thought may be that would make it easier to throw? I guess either way a throwline is the answer I havent done anything with SRT, was looking into it but for the minuet, with the kit I have got, im bundling through with DRT. How does using SRT make reaching high enough anchoring points help? Thanks for advice

Hi Jamie, are they hand held ones or with the additional stand? i dont mind getting one for that kinda money. was just uber reluctant to shell out 150 odd quid for one (that would get me a CE lanyard kit...) I was climbing some pretty complex (lots of branches..) trees on the weekend and got frustrated as was near impossible to get a good line up from the ground. I only had my 13 mm XTC rope with me which made throwing it even harder!! Might give it a go with the Aeris 11mm before i get a throwline kit. I would rather be able to throw my main line well than have to lug more kit around on rec climbs!!!!!

Yer thats a good point. Just set up my 5m lanyard so I will use that for anchor progression and then just anchor my main line in with a cambium as high as possible.

Cheers Lumber Jake. I will give that a go. (you make it sound easy) when throwing to the second anchor point Is it alright to throw the climbing line with a biner on it? or will this damage the biner?? Does anyone use a catapult?? didnt realise they were so spenny...so want to hear some feedback before I buy. Thanks again Lumber Jake

Hi lads, hope your all having a good week end! I had my new tree motion out today for the first time...great bit of kit. had a few problems with setting the line. I havent got a throwline or weights, i just use small garden rope with a weight or just my climbing line and a D shackle. I can get a good anchor point with this system but am struggling to get it high enoguh to be able to cover and practise the whole tree. Today was mainly to try out the new harness but i want to spend less time setting line and more time climbing. I am also desperate to be able to get a high enough anchor point so I can get high enough up. Are there any tips (apart from getting a throwline etc) on getting a good anchor point? is this just something practise will cure or are there some tips on using a throwline? Cheers in advance

A quiet bunch we are! Any places good for starting out would be awesome. need to get practising! are there many good spots around here? im south cambs as well so should know the areas you are talking about...i SHOULD... Have you pre ordered it then? Another question..do you have a trusty supplier around here or just internet?

alright, yer would be keen for that. supposed to snow tonight apparently. Was gonna go out for a butchers tomorrow and have a look around for good spots. Where do you normally go? Yer got most of the kit, all the gear and no idea springs to mind.....

You can then attached another another one for a 3:1 pulley system (great if your knakerd) Good to know how to set it up for rescues and other things!

is that the 8mm Beal accessory cord? Just got some by mistake.... and was not sure what it was suitable for as its "dynamic" rope suggested for fall arrest etc ? ?any help appreciated!

Thanks for input. I spoke with a guy from Duxford H&S, very helpful but quoted me best part of 400£ for the new Kolibri harness.... Im central cambridge, so close to both Chilli and you. defiantly keen for that, Im very new to climbing so it would be great to get some advice and see how the pros do it!!!

Even Better...Arb Talk Knot Guide app, great on the move....or up a tree There are so many types of different friction hitches, using different types of cordage, rope etc. Give them all/as many as you can its fun as well as beneficial to you knowing as many as possible. I was using viper 8mm prussik (endless) 4/6 rap for a while, was reluctant to change as I knew and felt comfortable with it. I was convinced to try others out (as i am trying to do here) and its made such a difference. I know climb with a variety of hitches for different applications. Let us know how you get on and what you decide on, pictures of your set up would be cool! -

Morning all! Anyone know of some good equipment suppliers around/in/within 30 miles of cambridge?? I have searched and searched, found one in Norfolk but wondered if there are any closer? (boring thread I know but im desperate to find somewhere I can go play with new kit and convince my self I need it!!)

Unfortunately not its a type of fungi,, i assume. I did check that as i wondered if that question may come up. Like you say the cambium is defiantly rot and it seems to of been that way for a while. it falls away at the slightest touch. What are you thoughts on its life span past this stage? Removal? I am slightly concerned about where the house is in relation to it. Cheers for your comments.
