Great advice thanks for your time. Further question...the picture is only one of the 'infected'. there is another, much bigger 'Aesculus x carnia' in my dads garden. I have not got photos but will try and get some tomorrow as it is much more substantial than the one i have shown a photo of. It would be great if I could have some advice on that one as well if possible.

Hi Rob, yer it is a red flowering. I am concerned as the core of the trnk is long dead, im surprised it is still holding. removal or are there treatments?

Thanks for all your replies, very helpful as i have been trying to find out for a while now. The horse chestnut is much worse than that, I havent got any pictures but will get some tomorrow. Going off my very basic description of the chestnut do you think it gonna need to be removed? that is a last resort by all means but im concerned about the stability of it.

Thanks for that. I have another horse chestnut I was looking at, it has the same issue but looks a lot worse. The core of the trunk is visible and dead/bad rot. the scars have gone around 3/4 of the trunk. It is also quite bad on in the crotch and again it covers about 3/4 of the limb. The crown was not visibly thinned or affected during the summer, however there was a lack of conkers (gutted i couldnt play conkers!) do you think this is related?

Hi all!! quick question and forgive me if im being stupid and or dull! could you tell me whats going on with this tree. Seen a lot of it around East Anglia and wondered what it is. Cant seem to find anything on it. thanks in advance for anyones help
