thanks bob . maybe i should have not been so lazy , i am currently climbing on marlow chamelion and to be honest im unsure about using smaller gauge ropes for reasons such as grip etc etc what are your thoughts ??

am on tachyon at mo and like but dean has just swapped back to XTC

hmm i think i will have to have a go on smaller rope , i have been told that it works better with the lock jack as well

i love the pi and variants and have also used the tachyon but am now settled on the pi in the aussie format. with the size issue i find that it feels like i grip better in my hand on the smaller lines maybe its because i can twist the rope a little in my hand and get more purchase but its a hellishly good climb, if you dont own a piece and dont want to spend the wedge then see if you can borrow a piece and have a play, well worth it if you ask me.

I have been working on getting CE approval on our range so we can sell into europe and the UK. CE is not the standard, it is a common mark that shows that the product conforms to the standard, in the case of rope this can be EN1891 or Uiaa etc etc.

 

To make the claim that you meet a standard you have to have the rope tesed in a certificed lab. They will then give you a cert that show your product meets the standard which you can then claim as a manufacturer. CE conformity is a system that makes sure that subsiquent batches of the same rope are made in a way which follows a strict specification to ensure that each and every rope meets that standard. This insures that the 1 millionth,000,000 reel of rope is the same and will pass the same test as the 1st one.

 

To be honest this is hard stuff, we manufacture to a very strict set of specs and have ISO certification on our factory but to get CE approval you need to spend a whole heap of coin to some independant authority to get some paper work that tells you what you are currently doing is OK.

 

Frustrating and even worse there is no one down our end of the world so we need to work with a company in Europe who charge in Euro. Ooch.

The CE version of PI has a Nylon Inner Core to higher the tensile stregnth and to give it the correct characteristics to meet the CE Standard. CE is much more stringent in testing than ANSI. The discisson not to make a CE version of Blue Moon was made in November.

 

Doesn't Ansi requires a higher tensile strength than EN ? Or was that just on Biners... ?
